That’s right, I bought myself a Macbook. My hackintosh was getting old and I really strugled with my daily workflow so I decided to jump on the hype train of Apple’s amazing M1 SoC. And I have to say, the rumors were right.

Since last year I haven’t have much time to solve problems regarding updating all my hackintoshes. I finally found some spare time last week to update my HP EliteBook 840 G3 that was stuck on macOS 10.15.1. I wanted to update all the way to macOS 10.15.7 in one go but it didn’t went as I was hoping.

Moving forward I will upgrade from Clover to OpenCore. It seems very well documented and there is pretty good install guide from dortania.

This update seems to be broken as hell. What’s worst - the Time Machine is broken so there is no way back if you don’t have full-disk backup (for bit-by-bit backup, check this guide). Other than that, you will get constant kernel panics, you won’t be able to copy files larger than 30 GB if it’s a APFS volume. Also ssh is broken, but to be honest, who uses builtin ssh when we have brew, right?

If you are using tmux plugin tmux-resurrect and you have upgraded tmux to version 3.0, you have probably noticed tmux server crashing while restoring sessions with error message [server exited unexpectedly]. Fortunately, the problem has been identified and a fix is coming. But until then, here is a workaround for macOS users.

If you own DW1560 (also branded as BCM94352Z or AW-CE162NF) and experience some issues with Bluetooth, check the version of the kext. I found out the hard way, it’s somewhat broken for DW1560.

Mounting volumes on macOS can be done using Disk Utility.app. For some reason, Apple decided not to show EFI partitions (among others such as Preboot, Recovery, etc) in Disk Utility.app. In this article, I will show you how to mount these volumes using command line (Terminal).

I have a hard drive dedicated for Time Machine backups and recently I decided to split the partition into 2. The second one became storage for a disk image of my main drive (in case my Hackintosh update fails). What bothered me was that every time I connected my Time Machine drive, the second partition got connected as well. How to prevent that?

This guide is meant for HP Probook/Elitebook/Zbook but it can be used for all hackintoshes. The only difference is that you have to get all kexts by yourself.
